Farnborough (England), July 17: Lion Air on Monday placed an order for 30 Boeing 737-900 Extended Range jetliners worth just over $2.2 billion at list prices, adding to the 30 the Indonesian budget airline ordered last year.
Lion Air chief Rusdi Kirana also said the regional carrier was looking to buy some of Boeing's mid-sized 787 Dreamliners at some stage over the next five years, in a joint media briefing with Boeing at the Farnborough International Airshow.
He would not say when he planned to buy or lease the 787 planes, or how a deal would be financed.
Deliveries of the new 737-900 ERs are scheduled from early 2010 through 2012, Boeing said. Lion Air, a rapidly growing regional Asian carrier, is to use the planes -- which have a maximum flight time of about six hours -- to fly to Singapore, Hong Kong and cities in China from its Jakarta base.
