INCOIS monitoring the situation on Indonesia Earthquake impact
Hyderabad, July 17 (UNI) With an earthquake rocking Indonesia and susequent Tsunami warning in the island country, the two city-based institutes which study these geographical calamites swung into action.
Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), Hyderabad has been monitoring the situation in the country following the earthquake and possible tsunami in Indonesia.
Director of the INCOIS Shilesh Nayak told UNI today that they have not given any tsunami warning in the country. He said there was no change in the sea levels in the present scenario. ''If any unusual development occurs, we would immediately alert and act accordingly'', he said.
National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) is also studying the situation.
Talking to UNI here, NGRI Director V P Dimri said in the present situation, there is nothing to panic. The tsunami reaches depending on the speed and depth of water level. ''Our Andaman is 1500 km from the epicentre. If the tsunami is 600 km per hour normally it will reach Andaman within three hours. If it would have come in Indonesia, by 1415 hrs today it should have reached Andaman. No such situation existed in Andaman as of now'', he said .
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy held a meeting with officials and took stock of the situation, especially in the coastal districts following situation in Indonesia.
