Punjab has Rs 2203 crore deposits in RBI: Amarinder

Phillaur, July 16 (UNI) Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today claimed that there was no dearth of funds and Punjab was the only state in the country that had deposits worth Rs 2203 crore with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

''The state government could withdraw money for the development works as and when needed'', he said while addressing a Vikas Rally here.

He said that Punjab had witnessed buoyancy in its economy that was almost stagnated due to the ill-conceived policies of SAD-BJP government. The government undertook corrective measures to rejuvenate the state's economy and put the state on the high growth trajectory, he added.

He said that the industrial as well as agriculture sector had witnessed an unprecedented growth during the last four years. As many as 218 mega projects worth Rs 73,000 crore, which would provide 16 lakh jobs, was a testimony to the government's commitment to ensure over all development in the state, he added.

Capt Singh appealed to the people to visualise the overall development and progress in the state during the Congress regime in comparison with SAD-BJP alliance to ascertain which party was sincere and honest in the pursuit of development in the state. He urged the people to give another chance to the Congress party to serve them.

On the agriculture front, Capt Singh said that the state government had tied up with Reliance Industries Limited and Bharti Group to give a boost to its programme of diversification of agriculture. He said that he would flag off two cargoes of fruits and vegetables of Bharti's venture at Ladowal from Amritsar on August one.
