Mumbai blasts probe breakthrough soon: Jaiswal
Raipur, Jul 16: Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal today hinted at the likelihood of a breakthrough in the Mumbai blasts case within a couple of days, saying the investigation was progressing in the ''right direction.'' ''Investigating agencies have already obtained certain leads. We are hopeful of a breakthrough in a couple of days,'' he told reporters at the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee office here.
''Those behind the explosions and how they did it is expected to be known in the next few days,'' he said but refused to divulge further details as it would affect the probe.
The minister felt that the serial blasts targeting the mass transit system were not aimed at merely slaying innocents but were part of a larger conspiracy to disturb harmony and generate unrest in the country. ''People stood united in the hour of crisis and foiled ultras' designs,'' he underline.
Replying to a question on whether the attack would dent the ongoing peace process with Pakistan, Mr Jaiswal said, ''We don't want to do anything that could hamper the peace initiative. However, such incidents will definitely slow down the process. Pakistan must also realise this.'' After the Chinese aggression of 1962, India prepared itself to face any such threat. ''Similarly, we have taken the terrorist assaults seriously,'' he said adding that steps had been taken to confront challenges to internal security.
Without naming any political party or associated organisations, the minister said the activities of some parties and organisations contributed to the spread of militancy. ''People have to remain alert against such forces to contain their activities,'' he added.
