Maharastra police team to interrogate suspected SIMI activists
Agartala, July 16 (UNI) A police team from Maharastra will arrive soon in the capital town, to find out if the 11 suspected muslim youths detained by the Dhalai Police, have any connection with the recent bomb blast in Mumbai where more than two hundred people lost their lives.
A top official in the Tripura Police told UNI.
That though the arrival date of the team has not yet been fixed, they are expected to arrive 'very soon'. ''The detained youths are suspected to be activists of the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI),'' the source said.
When asked whether the team will take the youths back to Mumbai, the official said they will be jointly interrogated by both the Maharastra Police as well as the Special Branch of the state Police.
''The special branch has already started the interrogation. They may take the youths back to Maharastra for further interrogation,'' he said.
The detained youths have been kept under strict vigil in a mosque at Dakhin Manik Bhandar in Kamalpur.
Another official said that the youths were conduiting door-to-door campaining here for taking in fresh recruits into the jehadi organisation.
The youths were helped by a local person from the Ramnagar Area of Agartala, the source said.
Meanwhile, Director General of Police (DGP) G M Srivastava said no team of Maharastra Police has arrived from Mumbai yet. ''Nothing has been finalised. All I can say is that a group of policemen from Maharastra are coming here soon to interrogate the 11 youths we have detained in Dhalai. It may be a group of Anti-Terrorists Squad or Mumbai Police or Maharastra Police,'' said Srivastava.
