Six dead, 22,000 affected due to floods in Wst Bengal

Shantipur, July 13 (UNI) At least six people have died and around 22,000 affected in floods in West Bengal's Birbhum and Murshidabad districts, even as the situation partially improved today.

Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta said the State Government had sanctioned Rs six crore and sent 289 tons of food for relief of the flood victims.

At least 1,000 acres of land have gone under water in Nadia district, due to the overflowing of river Bhagirathi here.

The Shantipur Mathidanga sluice gate has broken, causing destruction of crops. Churni and Khora rivers are also on the verge of touching the danger level.

Sub Divisional Officer Masbaul Haq said a relief team has been sent to the area.
