PM asks Mumbai police to keep their ears to ground
Mumbai, July 14 (UNI) Even as the Mumbai police and state intelligence department has come under attack following Tuesday's train blasts, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today asked the city police to improve ground-level intelligence and ''keep their ears to the ground''.
Addressing a press conference here, Dr Singh said, ''Even as our intelligence agencies have done good work and the Mumbai police have responded fast to the situation, there is need to improve ground level intelligence. I urge the local police to have their ears to the ground and detect any anti-national activities.'' Simultaneously, if an incident of this nature still happens, we need to have rapid response plans to ensure effective management of the situation and quick restoration of normalcy.
When asked whether the blasts were a result of intelligence failure, Dr Singh said the IB had given adequate warnings that something serious of this nature was likely, it was only a macro level input. There was no micro level inputs of specific nature, he added.
