NDDB, SEWA models to be replicated in the country: Jairam
Ahmedabad, July 14 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh today said his Ministry has decided to implement National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and Self-Employed Women's Association (SEWA)-like models to boost traditional industries in other states of the country.
Mr Jairam said his ministry has chalked out a blue print with the help of these two institutions to reach the benefits to artistans and workers.
Talking to reporters here, Mr Jairam said the SEWA has been asked to set up three modules of self-help group of women on the same pattern as in Andhra Pradesh. These three groups would be set up in Narshapuram in East-Godavari region, and Kochampali and Koilgudam, both near Hyderabad.
The Minister said the Government's objective for replicating these modules was not to generate just more profit for the artisans but to enhance employment opportunities for the people in rural areas.
Mr Jairam said agriculture, horticulture, leather, handloom and handicrafts have been identified as sectors to bridge the gap between the customers and producers to extend benefits.
The Ministry, he said, is emphasising on the need to export value added goods rather than raw materials. Main objective is to give impetus to produces like natural herbs, medicinal plants, handicrafts, handlooms and others with value added products than just raw materials which hardly offer benefits to grassroots artisans, workers, farmers and producers, he added.
