IITG student gets salary of Rs 24.4 lakhs

Guwahati, July 14 (UNI) For an ordinary soul it is an astronomical salary, but not in the IIT-Guwahati campus as the top student was picked up for Rs 24.4 lakh per annum in the just concluded campus placements.

According to the IIT management, IIT Guwahati shines at number one in placement among the best IT schools of India. A recent survey conducted by a reputed IT journal Dataquest and IDC a leading provider of technology intelligence has stated that the overall rating of the institute is four among the best Engineering Institutes of India.

The position is also two slots up from the last year's position awarded by Dataquest. The institute attracted 71 companies during this year's campus, with 58 per cent placements from the IT industry. The average salary on offer to institute students (Rs 4.52 lakh per annum) is also up by over 28 per cent.

Schumberger, the global giant in oil field and information services with a major focus on energy, has offered the highest pay package of Rs 24.41 lakh per annum to six B.Tech students. Other important companies that visited and recruited institute students are Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, Adobe, Veritus, Trilogy, Cisco, IBM, infosys, TCS etc.

In addition to placement achievements, the institute students have excelled in all other fields of academics and research, said the IIT management.

Two students of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering have developed a software named Chakshu, to enable the visually challenged to use computer without any sighted persons assistance.

The visually challenged students were given a hands-on training to facilitate its use. The software was als demonstrated and supplied to NGO based in Guwahati and to other schools and colleges across the country.

Two students of the Department of Electronics and Communication Enginering have won the All India Agilent Technologies Best B.Tech Project Award G V Anoop of Department of Computer Science and Engineering stood first in the IIM entrance examination.
