Colgate-Palmolive joins hand with WHO

New Delhi, Jul 14: Joining hands with the WHO-supported Global Child Dental Health Taskforce to eradicate tooth decay in children by 2026, Colgate-Pamolive India has announced the establishment of a new Oral Health Center of Excellence.

The center will impart educational training with the help of local dental health professionals and distribute one million dental health packs containing a toothpaste and a toothbrush for over 5 years.

Initiating the task, Global Taskforce Director Prof Raman Bedi said, ''We have sought help from the Indian dental leaders to eradicate tooth decay in children by 2026.'' Good oral health is the fundamental element of good general health, yet the lack of access to oral care for underserved children has reached an epidemic, Prof Bedi said.

Presently, he is on an Indian tour to co-chair the first meeting of the National Taskforce (NT).

According to a National Oral Health Survey, tooth decay is widespread among 54 per cent of 12 years old and 63 per cent among 15 years old in India while gum diseases are prevalent in 57 per cent of 12 year old and 68 per cent of 15 year old.
