Arunachal ST status to Mishings of Arunachal

Itanagar, July 14 (UNI): The Arunachal Pradesh government has decided to grant Scheduled Tribe status to Mishing communities as a sub-tribe of the Adis residing in seven villages under Lekang circle of Lohit district.

This was announced by state Education Minister Chowna Mein on Wednesday last at Sitpari Miri village of Lekang during his visit, official sources said here today.

The ST status would be granted to those members of the community who settled in the state before 1947, the minister informed adding, the decision of the government would also apply to certain villages in other districts of the state.

It might be mentioned here that Mishings have a large concentration in Lekang circle who, settled down much before independence.

The members of the Mishing community of the entire circle have expressed their heart-felt gratitude to the Minister, the Chief Minister and his government for fulfilling the long-cherished aspiration of the community, sources added.
