Win hearts of people before assembly polls: Mulayam to SP cadre

Lucknow, July 13 (UNI) Giving a new mantra of 'win hearts of the people' to the Samajwadi Party cadres for the 2007 Uttar Pradesh assembly polls, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav warned leaders should distance themselves from corruption to give a clean image to the party.

On conclusion of the two-day SP state executive meeting, Mr Yadav said it was high time the workers engaged themselves for elections by winning hearts of the people so that the party could achieve a two-thirds majority.

''The leaders and workers should hold 'Janta Darshan' and welfare camps in all blocks and tehsils to aware people about the facilities provided by the state government in the last three years of its rule,'' he added.

Later addressing a press conference, SP general secretary and state PWD and Power minister Shivpal Singh Yadav said strict action will be taken against party leaders and workers who are tarnishing the image of the party.

''Such leaders will be taken to task, whose names come up that they are tarnishing the party image,'' he said adding action would be taken against former SP corporator Bantu Yadav in the state capital for distrupting power lines.

He, however, refused comment on rebel SP minister Haji Yakoob Quereshi saying his grievances would be sorted out soon.

The minister said the two-day meeting approved the political and economic resolutions, criticising the centre for ignoring UP in all fields.

In meeting, it was also decided to launch a fresh agitation over price hike of essential commodities and make people aware of ''anti-people'' role of the Congress.
