Vaiko urges PM to prevent firing on fishermen

Chennai, July 13 (UNI) MDMK General Secretary Vaiko has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take urgent steps to prevent indiscriminate firing by Sri Lankan Navy personnel on Indian fishermen.

In a letter to Dr Singh, a copy of which was released to the press here yesterday, he said two fishermen were injured when the Lankan Navy opened fire at them on the night of July ten during fishing off Katchateevu coast.

''I request your goodself to take immediate measures to stop forthwith further attacks against our fishermen,'' Mr Vaiko said.
