Police raids Satlok ashram, arrests 60, including the swami

Chandigarh, July 13 (UNI) Police seized live ammunition and firearms in a raid conducted last night at the controversial Satlok Ashram and arrested at least 60 people, including swami Rampal, in connection with yesterday's firing incident.

Live cartridges and arms were recovered from the possession of associates of the Swami, Deputy Commissioner, Rohtak, R S Doon said.

The Ashram in village Karontha was taken over by the Central Reserve Police Force after it safely evacuated about 4000 followers, including a large number of women and children.

They were stranded in the ashram after yesterday's clash between villagers and some ashram dwellers, in which one person was killed and 52 arrested.

The situation in the area around the ashram was under control and the police had registered cases under Sections 147,148, 302, 307, 120-B of the IPC and and Sections 25, 59 and 64 of the Arms Act against them.
