Incessant rain throws normal life out of gear
Patna, July 13 (UNI) Incessant rain in the past three days has thrown life out of gear in Bihar as several low-lying areas remained inundated and waterlogged.
The continuous rain for the past three days is giving the residents of the state capital a harrowing time.
''Cloudy sky and frequent rain have been predicted for the next few days. Full-fledged monsoon has hit the state capital and conditions are likely to continue,'' said a meteorological centre official.
The heavy rainfall had inundated several areas of Patna. The water was flowing in the wards of Nalanda Medical College Hospital and the patients as well as students have to wade through knee-deep water.
Principal of the College Dr C B Chaudhary said, ''We have deliberately shut down the power supply or else there could be a major accident.'' He said, ''Our students are facing difficult times. Due to the power cut the water supply has alsgo been disrupted.'' ''Patients of the medicine ward could not get off from the beds as the one feet high rain water was flowing below their beds. They could not go to toilets as it had become useless with the sewage backflow,'' Dr Chaudhary said.
Local administration of Patna and several other district authorities have ordered closure of the schools for two days in their respective jurisdictions.
Office goers continued to face hardship in attending their duties. Business actvities also got hit as very few ventured out of their houses for shopping.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has asked Chief Secretary G S Kang to hold a meeting with senior officials of the Urban Development Department, Patna Municipal Corporation, Public Health Engineering Department and Patna Water board to find out the ways to remove the water logging and prevent it in the future.
