Eleven suspected SIMI activists from Maharastra detained in Tripura

Agartala, July 13 (UNI) Dhalai District Police in Tripura detained eleven suspected SIMI activists from the Bordering areas with Bangladesh under the Kamalpur sub-division today.

Talking to UNI, Superintendent of Police (SP) Arindam Nath said the eleven suspected SIMI had been staying in two mosque since June 26, situated close to Bangladesh border. All the eleven hailed from Thane District of Maharastra.

On interrogation, the detained SIMI activists said they came to Tripura to spread Islamic religion. They further revealed that they had stayed in the capital city for some days for the same purpose.

Tripura police were keeping a close contact with the Thane police to know if there was any criminal case against them. When asked whether the detained activists had revealed any details about their modus-operandi, the SP refused to divulge the details.

''We do not want to divulge much now as it may hamper our interrogation,'' said Mr Nath.
