Court sentences a man to 7-years RI for attempt to murder cops

New Delhi, July 13 (UNI) A city court today sentenced a 31 year-old-man to seven-year rigorous imprisonment for assaulting, and attempting to murder three policemen in Badarpur area in South-West Delhi three years ago.

Ater hearing the arguments of both the prosecution and the defence, Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Vinod Kumar held Rahul IIyas quilty and sentenced him to seven-year imprisonment.

The court further slapped a fine of Rs 1000 on Rahul.

On November 24, 2003, constable Ved Veer, Prem Sagar and Sub-inspector Ravishankar were on duty at Badarpur check post. When they tried to stop Rahul for asking some questions, Rahul fleed from the spot. When the policemen tried to chase him, he assaulted them with a knife, according to the prosecution.

Rahul was convicted under sections 307 (Attempt to murder), 333 (Obstructing public servants from performing duty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 27 of Arms Act.
