Kolkata, Jul 13 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today assured the members of the Assembly that adequate relief and rehabilitation measures had been taken by the state government for the flood affected people of Murshidabad and Birbhum districts.

Regretting the inconveniences faced by the people of these two districts in the wake of flash flood following release of water from Tilpara Barrage, the Chief Minister said he had heard about the six deaths but was yet to get the latest toll from the police in this connection.

Replying to a related query raised by Congress Chief Whip Manas Bhuniya during the Zero hour in the House, Mr Bhattacharjee said it was not a man-made flood in either of these two districts and the state government had enough stocks of relief material to tide over the crisis.

He said a greater disaster was, however, averted following the alertness of the district police administration who had informed the people of the imminent danger in time.

The Chief Minister also denied the Opposition's allegation that the state administration's attitude was 'lackadaisical' and not enough steps were being taken to avoid the danger of flash floods .
