New Delhi, July 13 (UNI) Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ramankumar Singh today announced that the state would allow Delhi to set up a 2,000 megawatt thermal power plant in Janjgir district.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a Meet-the-Press organised by the Indian Women Press Corps here, Dr Singh said a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard will be signed in August.

He said this assurance was given to a three-member team led by Delhi Electricity Minister Harun Yusuf in Chhattisgarh yesterday.

The proposed power plant is expected to feed the growing power demand of the National Capital which is facing a shortfall of 3,900 MW on average. The state will also retain the right to claim 30 per cent of the output generated for its own consumption, he said.

Dr Singh further said by 2010 when the Commonwealth Games are organised here, Delhi would receive the entire amount of the electricity promised.
