An unsung hero whose dare devil act goes unrewarded
Itanagar, Jul 13 (UNI) Indeswar Boruah is a frustrated man today, just a pale shadow of the man who once rescued former Prime Minister Morarji Desai from a plane crash.
On a visit to his cottage, one could find Boruah with a bidi dangling between his lips. Every time he finds a new visitor, he would narrate the tale of his daredevil act.
Father of three sons and two daughters, Indeswar Boruah, the hero who rescued then prime minister late Morarji Desai in a plane crash at Tekela Gaon near Jorhat in Upper Assam during 1977, is facing a tough time with little to support his family.
Despite several promises made to him by the then prime minister, he only got a bicycle from the Indian Air Force as a token of appreciation along with three of his colleagues, who assisted him in evacuating the Prime Minister from the plane which caught fire.
''They assured me to construct my house and the village roads, but all in vain,'' Boruah said sitting in front of his house in a broken chair while his wife nodded her head in support.
The then Prime Minister had also sanctioned a hospital for the village but the state government had established a health sub-centre in the village, while the sanctioned hospital was established at Solmara 20 km away, he informed adding, the villagers have donated four bighas of land for the said hospital.
A sub-post office was also established in the village he disclosed and though village has been connected with electric lines but power is seldom supplied to the village.
