UPA failed to tackle terrorism: BJP

New Delhi, July 12: The BJP today accused the UPA Government of failing to tackle terrorism in the country, charging it with pursuing only vote bank politics.

The scheduled office-bearers meeting of the BJP, which was held to finalise a strategy to put on the mat the Manmohan Singh Government on various issues in the coming Monsoon Session of Parliament, is understood to have passed a resolution condemning the government policy on terrorism describing it ''as too soft'' to curb the menace.

The policy, party sources said, was more aimed at pursuing the vote bank politics rather than national interests.

The party said the UPA Government ought to clarify whether they put vote bank politics above the national security and integrity.

The meeting was attended, among others, by former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former party presidents Murli Manohar Joshi, M Venkaiah Naidu, K Janakrishnamurthy, Bangaru Laxman and former union minister Sushma Swaraj. Senior party Leader L K Advani is in Mumbai to meet the injured in the serial bomb blasts there.

When asked what the meeting had discussed, Mr Vajpayee said the party will come out with a detailed statement later.
