tells UPA
New Delhi, July 12 (UNI) Strongly condeming the dastardly bomb blasts in Mumbai and Srinagar in which hundreds of people died or were injured, the BJP today demanded that the UPA government choose between its vote bank and India and either govern or get out.
In a resolution adopted at a meeting of National Office Bearers attended by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and several senior party leaders, the BJP took the UPA government to task for not ensuring Pakistan fulfil its commitment made to India that it would not allow its territory to be used for terrorist purposes. Terror infrastructure in Pakistan continued to be operational and this would be a major hindrance for a lasting peace between the two neighbours and India under the UPA has become a 'soft state', BJP Spokesman Ravishankar Prasad told newspersons after the two-hour-long meeting.
The BJP appealed to the people to stand united in the hour of crisis when challenges were posed to disrupt peace, social harmony and sovereignty of India.
The party said the UPA government had sent wrong signals to terrorists that terrorism could be traded for votes by repealing a tough law like Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA). The government had created an environment where terror infrastructure could breed, promote and wreck the country, the party alleged.
Taking exception to Uttar Pradesh government's refusal to implement the ban on Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), the party said it was yet another perverted example of vote bank politics. People from all sections felt insecure as the chain of terror linked Varanasi to Bangalore to Mumbai, Delhi and Srinagar, Mr Prasad said.
The meeting, presided over by BJP President Rajnath Singh, also gave a call to its state units to organise protests at the state headquarters on July 15 and 16 in front of Raj Bhavans and present their memorandum to President A P J Abdul Kalam through the state governors and vent their feelings towards the inept handling of the terror situation by the UPA government.
He said senior BJP leader L K Advani was already in Mumbai while Mr Rajnath Singh will leave for the metropolis to call on the families of victims and the injured people at the hospitals.
Besides the national office bearers, senior BJP leaders like Dr Murli Manohar Joshi and former Presidents Bangaru Laxman, K Jana Krishnamurthy and Venkaiah Naidu attended the meeting.
