Parliamentary Committee keen on solving SC/ST problems

Mysore, July 12 (UNI) The Parliamentary Committee on Welfare of Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe, currently on a nationwide tour to hear the grievances of the oppressed community, will submit its report within a month to Parliament for necessary action, its Chairman Ratilal Kalidas Varma informed.

Addressing newspersons here yesterday, he said the Committee had been touring Karnataka for the last two days and hearing grievances of SC/STs employed in various banks, public sector undertakings and the state government departments.

He said the Committee was keen on solving problems faced by these oppressed classes.

To a question, Mr Varma said the Committee took note of the various problems being faced by the tribal people in the district, including denial of permission to enter forests to eke out a livelihood and assured that suitable steps would be taken to rectify their problems.

Once the Committee submitted its report on Parliament, it would be made public for getting suggestions and recommendations, he added.

The Committee, comprising 15 MPs from various parties, would visit all the states to have a first hand knowledge about the problems being faced by the SC/ST community.

The Committee, which had interacted with tribals in Kodagu on Mondayy, would be leaving for Bangalore today to meet the government employees.
