Mulayam reiterates commitment to development of UP
Barabanki, July 12 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav said his government would continue to strive for the welfare of farmers and poor, notwithstanding ''the Centre's conspiracy against UP.'' Mr Yadav claimed the Centre was envious of the steady pace of all-round development of the state.
Addressing a public meeting here yesterday, he said the state government was committed to improving the lot of farmers and the poor and would go even to the extent of seeking confrontation with centre.
Earlier, he laid the foundation of various development schemes and dedicating to the people several completed projects here estimated at Rs 120 crore.
The Chief Minister announced a grant of Rs 65 crore for other development works in the district and another Rs 50 lakh for construction of Manohar Lal Verma Degree College.
He said unemployment allowance to educated youth was promise mentioned in his manifesto and now his government had honoured it.
It was an irony, said Mr Yadav, that persons having no grassroots support had joined hands to hatch conspiracy to remove his popular government while the Planning Commission lauded the development works and the people throughout the country hailed the policies of people's welfare being pursued by him in UP.
The SP chief criticised the Centre for importing wheat instead of procuring the same from Indian farmers by paying a remunerative price to them.
He said his government served the interests of farmers and more than Rs 18,000 crore had been paid to sugarcane growers.
