Life continues in Mumbai, death toll pegged at 190
Mumbai, July 12 (UNI) Mumbai has sprung back to life, even as the death toll in the serial train blasts reached at 190, with over 700 people reportedly injured.
Maharashtra Director General of Police Dr P S Pasricha, while speaking to reporters today said, that as many as 190 persons were killed and 714 injured, in yesterday's blasts.
Dr Pasricha said the involvement of Lashkar-e-Toiba, cannot be ruled out. ''We cannot rule out the possibility of the involvement of Lashkar-e-Toiba in last evening's train serial blasts, but it is yet not confirmed,'' he said.
Dr Pasricha said investigations had been handed over to the ATS (Anti-Terrorist Squads) officials last night itself, and the squad is reported to have got some clues in this connection.
The serial blasts in the western suburbs trains were ''pre-planned'', as the police had information that Mumbai was the target of anti-social elements.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, however said it was too early to say whether the blasts were the result of intelligence failure.
''It is too early to discuss this. Give us some time. The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) is probing the blasts and no one will be spared,'' Mr Deshmukh said, after an all-party meeting convened by him at Vidhan Bhavan here this morning.
Mr Deshmukh who was accompanied by Deputy CM R R Patil, BJP leader Gopinath Munde and Nitin Gadkari, leader of opposition in the assembly Ramdas Kadam, said four resolutions were passed at the meeting -- condemning the dastardly act of terror, paying tributes to the victims of the terror attacks, resolving to fight terror together and bringing the accused to book and saluting the spirit of Mumbai for its resilience and determination to emerge victorious against all odds.
