K'taka HC admits petition on encroachment on govt land
Bangalore, July 12 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today admitted a writ petition seeking a direction to the state government and the revenue authorities to evict encroachers on large extent of government land in Hulimangala, Indlugvadi and other villages on the areas close to the electronic city.
The petitioner, Karnataka Corruption Eradication Committee Convener H T Somashekhara Reddy, contended that about 800 acres of 'Gomal' land, meant for grazing cattle in the villages, had been encroached upon by several persons by producing fake documents.
These people had even obtained court decrees against the government. But the authorities concerned had not taken any steps to defend the title of the government and let go the claims undefended, he argued.
He sought the court to direct the authorities to take steps to protect valuable public property from falling into the hands of encroachers.
The petition was admitted by the Bench comprising Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Mr Justice D V Shylendra Kumar.
The same Bench also admitted a similar petition (PIL) filed by C M Ramegowda and eight others of Laggere village near Yeshvantpur seeking protection of valuable lands on the outskirts of the city.
The petitioner alleged that the government and revenue authorities had not taken any action against the land grabbers.
They had also failed to stop environmental pollution in and around Basappana Kere village.
