Guj CM urges PM to convene CMs' meeting for consensus on terrorism

Ahmedabad, July 12 (UNI) Gujarat Chief Minister Narenda Modi today urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to convene a meeting of all the Chief Ministers to arrive at a national consensus and political will to curb rampant terrorism.

Commenting on yesterday's serial blasts in Mumbai at a function here, Mr Modi said that terrorism which was typical to Kashmir has now spread its tentacles to all across the country. And, therefore, there was an urgent need to take the opinion of all the CMs on the issue.

As to the Centre's attitude to yesterday's blasts and grenade attack in Srinagar, he said it was shocking that no strong statement has so far come from the Centre despite nearly 200 deaths and as many injured.

Speaking at a function to mark the installation of the new team of Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), the Chief Minister called upon the state's apex trade body to uphold the lofty traditions of illustrious industrialists.

He said that the GCCI should also take Small Scale Industries (SSIs) along to face global challenges. Gujarat is no more competing with its neighbouring states, but with the strong economies.

Earlier in the afternoon, presiding over the State Cabinet meet at Gandhinagar, Mr Modi called upon the Centre to take stern measures to curb rampant terrorism with a heavy hand by enacting effective laws like POTA (Prevention of Terrorism Act).

He exuded confidence the people would support the Centre's such a move to deal with the issue in an effective way.

The Cabinet passed a resolution to this effect, too, as the Council of Ministers observed two minutes silence to pray for the departed souls.
