Efforts on to step up dedicated power generation: Delhi Govt
New Delhi, July 12 (UNI) Under fire for its poor management of the recent power crisis, Delhi Government today said it was speeding up efforts to set up dedicated power plants that would produce an additional 2490 MW.
Chief Secretary R Narayanswami has instructed senior officers of the power department to expedite signing of an MoU with NTPC for setting up of a second 490 MW coal-based dedicated power plant at Dadri, an official spokesman said.
An MoU for setting up of the first dedicated 490 MW plant for Delhi at Dadri had already been signed with NTPC.
Delhi Power Minister Haroon Yusuf and Principal Secretary (Power) Rakesh Mehta were in Chhatishgarh to finalise modalities for setting up of a coal-based dedicated 2000 MW power plant, he informed.
During their visit issues relating to site selection, tie up on land acquisition and signing of an MoU with the Chhattishgarh government would be discussed at length, he said.
Mr Yusuf and Mr Mehta would also call on Chhattishgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh in this connection.
According to the spokesman, the Chief Secretary while reviewing Delhi's power situation instructed the power department to concentrate on developing a reliable back-up to tackle the situation in case of failure of power plants from where Delhi gets its share.
The meeting was attended by Director (Operation) Transco and senior officers of NDMC, Discoms and Power Department.
The meeting was informed that the maximum peak time power demand of 3100 MW was fully met today. There was no report of load shedding except certain local faults, the spokesman said.
