Presiding over the 13th annual meeting of the HP Gujjar Welfare Board here, he said the government was planning to settle 1,420 identified Gujjar families in the state at suitable places of their choice.
Mr Singh said out of a total of 1,420 identified families, 1,270 had opted to settle in different districts permanently.
The state government had also decided to extend the date of re-survey of the Gujjar families up to August 31 this year to ensure that all these families were brought under the fold, he said.
He also appealed to the non-official members of the Board to cooperate with the state administration in identifying eligible families to help the administration in settling them permanently.
The list of eligible families would be displayed in the respective offices of deputy commissioner and members of the community would be free to raise queries before finally carrying out the settlement programme, he said.
The chief minister said his government was committed to the socio-economic uplift of the community and added several schemes have been launched for their well being.
He said the National Project on Cattle and Buffalo Breeding Project, aimed at hundred per cent artificial insemination of the buffalos of the community at their door steps, was under implementation in the state.
