CM for private institutes in education sector
Guwahati, Jul 12 (UNI) Asom Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has pressed for revamp of the education sector in the state to attract the best talents and also invited private institutions.
Expressing concern in the state Assembly recently over largescale migration of meritorious students to other parts of the country, Mr Gogoi proposed to raise the annual grant-in-aid to Gauhati and Dibrugarh universities to Rs 25 crore and Rs 12 crore respectively from Rs 20 crore and Rs 10 crore.
''Steps have also been initiated to set up a third engineering college in the state,'' he informed.
Other steps that have been taken to improve the quality of education included the proposal of setting up of an open university under the Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University Act, 2005, introduction of five-year courses in the Government Law College and upgradation of Kokrajhar College to a Government College status, Mr Gogoi added.
The chief minister also welcomed private law, medical, engineering, management, architecture, design and fashion design institutes to set up their branches in the state.
''The government is ready to deal with their requirements on a one-to-one basis,'' he said.
Regarding the implementation of the Sarba Siksha Abhijan (SSA), Mr Gogoi said the state government had provided the required share for implementing the mission in Asom.
''Now it is up to the Central government to extend the mission to its secondary phase in the state,'' he added.
He informed that one of the major activities of the mission that was fulfilled during the current year was the publication of new textbooks for class VII in all mediums.
The NCC activities would also be revamped in the state to help in the scope of recruitment in the defence services, the chief minister added.
