Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir win
Chandigarh, July 12 (UNI) Chhattisgarh and Jammu and Kashmir finished their respective clusters engagements with one win and one defeat each in the third Junior Girls Under-17 National Football Championship here today.
Jammu and Kashmir, however, are virtually out of the race despite carving out a narrow 1-0 win over Madhya Pradesh in their Cluster A qualifying round programme. The all-important goal for J&K was scored by Sakshi, who converted a centre from Gurpreet Kour in the 40th minute.
Chhattisgarh also finished their cluster D programme by beating Pondicherry 5-1. The pint-sized Pondicherry girls displayed good skill in trapping, ground passes and positional play. However, they failed to score not more than one goal due to their poor physique.
Pondicherry had better ball possession but once inside the box, the Chhattisgarh defenders foiled their moves. Chhattisgarh led 2-0 at half time. In their counter-attacks in the second half, Chhattisgarh scored three more goals. Neha Nishad contributed two goals by scoring in the 18th mintue and in the 60th minute with a long ranger. Suman Sunani (14th), Prerna Mishra (53rd) and R Sneha (65th) netted oen goal each for Chhattisgarh's 5-1 win.Suman Sunani was show yellow card in the 61st minute for rough play.
Pondicherry at last pierced the Chhattisgarh goal in the 70th mintue through K Thenmozhi.
Earlier, Bihar tasted their first victory in their Cluster B qualifying matches as they blanked Uttranchal by 9-0 in the morning session. With this victory they secured three points.
Bihar meant business from the start and they were two goals up in three minutes, with Mamta striking in the second and third minutes.
She also scored in the 33rd minute for her third goal.
However, Niki was Bihar's main goal-getter as she contributed four goals. She struck in the 11th, 38th, 47th and 51st minutes.
Amrita and Shilpi netted one goal each in the 18th and 49th minutes to complete Uttranchal's rout.
Goa began their campaign with a 4-1 victory over Jharkhand in a Cluster C qualifying encounter. However, it was Jharkhand who drew the first blood by scoring through C Mundali. Goa were quick to neutralise the lead in the 49th minute with Mqrella Xavier scoring a fine goal. Falina Cardozo changed the complexion of the game by scoring two goals in eight minutes. She gave Goa lead again in the 60th mintue and virtually made it safe for her team with a goal in the 68th minute. Malvita Mascrenhas rounded off the winners' tally in the 77th minute. Sunita Jamunda received a yellow card for her rough play in the 18th minute.
