Patna High Court issues directive on kidnapping cases
Patna, Jul 11 (UNI) Expressing concern over thousands of kidnappintg cases before Patna district judgeship, Patna High Court issued directive to take Patna as a model district for expeditious disposal of kidnapping cases.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice J N Bhatt and Justice Sheokirti Singh passed the order while hearing a suo-motu PIL on kidnapping cases. Officer on special duty informed that pending kidnapping cases upto December 2005 was 9424 which had gone up to 10,410 by the end of June, 2006.
Surprised with the increase of the kidnapping cases, the bench asked the Registrar General of High court to issue instruction to all judgeship of the state to accord priority in hearing of kidnapping cases.
Meanwhile, IG (CID) filed an affidavit which revealed that 5819 people had been declared absconders in connection with kidnapping cases across the state.
Bihar Advocate General assured the court that a team of dedicated advocats would be appointed within a week to perform the duties of prosecutors to ensure speedy dispossal of kidnapping cases.
