Meghalaya CM admits move to topple govt
Shillong, Jul 11 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief Minister J Dringwell Rymbai today admitted that there is a move to topple his 27-day-old coalition government.
''I have heard about their move,'' Mr Rymbai told UNI here today adding, ''in politics anything can happen''.
The ''toppling game'' in Meghalaya politics surfaced after few Congress MLAs returned to the fold of former Chief Minister D D Lapang recently.
Most of these MLAs have expressed their loyalty to Mr. Lapang after they were not inducted in the Dringwell Rymbai ministry, sources close to the Congress party here said.
''They wanted him (Mr. Lapang) again to take over the reins of government from Mr. Rymbai,'' the sources said.
The dissidence in the Congress here simmered soon after some of the Congress MLAs, who were also responsible Mr Lapang's downfall last month, were not inducted in the 12-member Rymbai ministry.
Members of the Nongkshen Block Congress Committee today urged Mr Rymbai to induct their 'seniormost' MLA K K Dkhar in the ministry.
Mr Dkhar was one among the 17 Congress MLAs who revolted against Mr Lapang and elected Mr. Rymbai as the new CLP leader.
However, Mr Rymbai allotted Mr Dkhar with the post of Chairman.
Against this backdrop, Mr Rymbai has summoned a CLP meet tomorrow to discuss the issue of maintaining unity among the Congress members.
