80 villages in Bihar submerged, monsoon advances into east Rajasthan
New Delhi, July 11 (UNI) About 80 villages in Bihar have been submerged as monsoon has been active in most parts of the country and has further advanced into east Rajasthan and some more parts of west Rajasthan.
Eighty villages of Bhagalpur district in Bihar have been submerged in flash flood which hit the area following breaches in embankment of Chandan river this morning.
Sub-divisional officer Dhananjay Thakur said the affected villages were under the jurisdiction of Jagdishpur, Gauradih, Sabour, Sonaula and Kahalgaon blocks.
Monsoon showers have lashed several parts of Kolkata continuously for the past one week.
Kolkata received around six mm rainfall last night, met office sources said today.
The southwest monsoon has futher advanced into east Rajasthan and some more parts of west Rajasthan.
According to the weather office, many parts of the state recieved more than 100-150 mm rain during the last 24 hours. The rains continued today.
Manoharthana region in Jhalawar district received 214 mm rain and is facing the threat of floods. Behrod in Alwar district received 165 mm, Ladnu and Didwana also in Nagaur received 150 and 125 mm rains.
While Sujangarh in Churu and Sikar received 133 mm, Ramgarh received 110 mm of rainfall.
Though monsoon has been active in most parts of the country, humid and hot weather conditions prevailed in northwestern region.
Nangal in Punjab witnessed 88 mm of rain while Amritsar and Patiala remained dry and Ludhiana experienced only .2 mm showers.
The minimum temperature in Amritsar was 27.4 degrees Celsius and humidity high at 90 per cent.
The minimum temperature in Chandigarh was recorded at 24.8 degree Celsius, with 65 per cent humidity and slight showers. The sky was partially overcast with breezy conditions but rains dodged the city.
Nadaun in Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh recorded the heaviest rainfall of 123 mm, while Ghamroor in Kangra district received 42.2 mm of rain.
Bangana and Una received 21 and 15.4 mm of rains respectively, while Jogindernagar in Mandi district received 20 mm of rains during the last 24 hours.
Cool weather continued in the national capital with thick monsoon clouds resulting in a further drop in mercury to 31 degrees.
The minimun temperature recorded was 26 degrees, two degrees more than yesterday.
Heavy rains have occurred at most places in Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, coastal Karnataka,Kerala and many places in the Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
Very light rain have occurred at isolated places in Orissa, Punjab and east Madhya Pradesh.
Meanwhile, brief showers lashed Chennai and its suburbs giving the much needed relief to the people of this southern metropolis who were virtually experiencing an extended summer.
