UN Council members confirm no vote on NKorea Monday

UNITED NATIONS, July 10 (Reuters) U.N. Security Council members agreed with Japan that there would be no vote today on a resolution imposing sanctions on North Korea for its barrage of missile tests last week.

After a flurry of meetings today morning, France, the current Security Council president, said none of the eight sponsors of the resolution requested an immediate vote.

''No co-sponsor has requested a vote today. So there will be no vote today,'' Ambassador Jean-Marc de la Sabliere said.

The 15-nation council is expected to consult later in the afternoon to hear a briefing from Japan, which drafted the resolution, diplomats said.

Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi said Tokyo was willing to delay a vote to allow time for diplomatic efforts being led by China.
