Opposition concerned over poor crime detection in Goa
Panaji, Jul 10 (UNI) BJP opposition leader Manohar Parrikar today charged the government with failure to detect mounting crime with the detection percentage registering too low.
Intervening in the Question Hour on the opening day of the Monsoon session today, Mr Parrikar grilled the government for the police inability to check the mounting crimes in the island state including the theft of artifacts from Churches.
He had also asked the government whether the police had been held responsible for their failure in detection and low acquittal rate.
Replying to Damodar Naik's (BJP) question earlier, the Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane told the house that the police had detected only 218 cases of theft as against total 580 cases reported since January one, 2005, till February 28 this year. As many as five dacoities and 24 rape cases were registered and two and 21 of them, respectively, detected.
The police, he said, had been directed to intensify night patrolling and take other remedial measures to check the crime and increase detection percentage.
Replying to Manohar Azgaonkar (BJP) on another question related to increasing number of rave parties and gambling incidents in Pernim taluka of North Goa, the Chief Minister said the incidents had come down from 58 in the year 2003 to 46 in 2005 and eight till February end this year.
The members expressed serious concern over the increasing incidents of gambling and the government's silence.
