Manchester-based company under scanner

Dubai, July 10 (UNI) Bahrain is investigating a Manchester-based St Mary's International Recruitment company of allegedly charging Indian nurses thousands of dollars for jobs in Bahrain, the UK, Europe and the US.

Some of the victims of the job scam have ended up stranded in Bahrain on visit visas and eventually had to be rescued by the Indian Embassy.

One woman successfully recruited was later found to have paid the Bahrain company 4,000 pounds, four times the proper fee.

''They failed to pay us even the actual fees. They owe us 13,600 pounds,'' he told Gulf Daily News.

Cases have been filed in Bahrain against Raju Kurian who runs the company. Moreover, he has alleged that its agent in Bahrain took large amounts of money from the applicants, without his knowledge.

He further said out of 31 nurses recruited for the UK by the Bahrain firm, only 18 were successful.

The company was bringing nurses to Bahrain on visit visas, after collecting money from them, he added.
