Chopra signs off tied 30th at the Western Open
Lemont, Illinois, July 10 (UNI) Daniel Chopra's form slumped further as he hit five bogeys in his card of two-over 73 to finish tied 30th after the final round of the five million dollar Cialis Western Open here.
The Indian-born Swede, who held the sole lead after the second round, saw a disastrous turnaround in his fortunes midway, to end the tournament with a four-day total three-under 281, 10 shots off the pace of winner Trevor Immelman of South Africa.
Immelman fired a decent four-under 67 to rise from the tied second spot with a four-day total of 13-under 271 and win the title.
Chopra started the day on a positive note, hitting a birdie on the third but a bogey on the next pulled him back. He gained a shot on the sixth only to let the advantage slip with a bogey on the eighth.
Level-par at the halfway mark, Chopra did not start his backward journey very well as he hit two bogeys on the 10th and 14th. The Swede tried to arrest the slide with a birdie on the 15th but again stumbled on the 17th to end the tournament on a disapointing note.
Meanwhile, overnight leader Fijian Vijay Singh (73) also did not have the best of days as he hit four bogeys and a double-bogey on the last hole against four birdies to finish tied fourth alongwith defending champion Jim Furyk (71), four shots behind Immelman.
Tiger Woods (68) ended his campaign at the tied second spot after accumulating a four-day total of 11-under 273.
