Srinagar, July 9 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Milk Producers Cooperative Ltd (JKMPCL) sold 98,305 litres of milk in the national capital from Kashmir during 2005-06.

JKMPCL, for the first time, sent the milk to Delhi through Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation during the period.

Agriculture and Cooperative Minister Abdul Aziz Zargar reiterated the role of cooperatives and expressed the state government's commitment to replicate the Gujarat-based Amul model of dairy development in the state.

Presently, JKMPCL was getting 11,000 litres of milk per day from its 180 organised cooperatives in Kashmir, Mr Zargar said while launching cooperatives' Snowcap curd at Chesma Shahi here.

Mr Zargar added that 100 new cooperatives would be organised and the existing ones further strengthened in the state during the current fiscal.

Last year, JKMPCL procured a total of 54.52 lakh litres milk from producers and paid Rs 5.98 crore to them.

A net profit of Rs 1.54 lakh was generated during 2005-06, the Minister said, adding that JKMPCL's turnover for the period stood at Rs 14.66 crore.

The Minister later released an annual report of JKMPCL for 2005-06.
