Hizb ultra nabbed, huge cache of arms seized in Kashmir

Srinagar, July 9 (UNI) Security forces apprehended a Hizbul Mujahideen militant and seized a large cache of arms and ammunition from his possession in north Kashmir's apple town of Sopore last evening, an official spokesman said today.

On a tip-off, a joint operation was launched by 22 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), 16 battalion of the CRPF and the Special Operation Group of the Jammu and Kashmir police at Bomei Tujar Sharief in Sopore area of North Kashmir's Baramulla district last evening.

The spokesman said the security forces apprehended Hizb militant, identified as Qayoom Bhat alias Janbaz, and seized an AK rifle, two magazines and 35 rounds from him.

During his interrogation, he said the militant had 13 AK-47 magazines, 42 UBGLs, 44 UBGL grenades, 16 RPG shells and 245 rounds from his hideouts.

The spokesman said Qayoom, who had crossed the Line of Control (LoC) twice and got arms training in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) for one year, was involved in several militant related incidents.
