Socialists want India to display farsight in its Nepal policy
New Delhi, July 8 (UNI) Socialists of all hues in India who have been associated with the struggle of their Nepalese counterparts with monarchy want India to display far-sighted approach and should not repeat the mistakes committed in Bangladesh.
The socialists now scattered in various political parties made it a point to attend the reception hosted to former Nepalese Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deoba by Janata Dal (United) President Sharad Yadav's residence were of the view that situation in Nepal today was very similar to that of India in 1947 soon after attaining Independence.
If India doesn't play its card deftly, it will meet the same fate as Bangladesh, which had become home for terrorist outfits and anti-India feeling was on the high tide, Mr Mohan Prakash, former Janata Dal leader felt.
Many Nepalese leaders who have put up peaceful democratic resistance are coming out of jails after 10 years and hundreds had disappeared without even being traced whereas Maoists armed struggle was hardly a decade old. King as well as Maoists both had huge arms stocks but could not decisively win. It was Gandhian struggle of the people which had brought results, he added saying democracy and armed struggle can't go hand in hand.
Several leaders including former Union Minister Shanti Bhushan, former Bihar Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra, BJP Spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad and senior Nepalese leaders accompanying Mr Deoba attended the high tea hosted in honour of the visiting guests.
