Baramulla, Jul 8 (UNI) Militants made an abortive bid on the life of Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Baig's close relative when they attacked his house with automatic weapons in north Kashmir last night, official sources said.
A group of militants attacked the house of Javid Hussain Baig, nephew of Deputy Chief Minister at Chandoosa, they said.
Even though the guards posted there returned the fire, militants managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
Mr Javid and his other family members escaped unhurt in the attack.
He had recently contested unsuccessfully in the by-election from Sangrama constituency on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket a coalition partner in the government.
This was the second attempt on his life during the past six months. He escaped unhurt in a militant hand grenade attack on his vehicle at Sangrama shortly before by-elections.
