Investors' meeting to be convened in Hubli soon

Hubli, July 8 (UNI) The Karnataka Government will convene a meeting of investors other than Information Techonology sector in Hubli soon, Revenue Minister Jagadish Shettar informed today.

Inaugurating a 'VLSI Design Centre' of Sankalp Semiconductor Pvt Ltd at B V Bhoomareddy College of Engineering and Technology here, he said he would discuss the subject with Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on the meeting date.

The Minister assured the IT industries provision of all basic infrastructure without any hitch and said they (IT industries) were free to come to Hubli any time.

Karnataka Lingayat Education Society Chairman Prabhakar Kore, MLC, who was also present, announced that the Society was keen on opening a different and production-oriented engineering college here and appealed to the State Government to provide land at market cost.

With a vision to make India a hub of mixed signal semiconductor services and solutions, Sankalp had started its high technology deep submicron IC layout work for its global customers from the college today.

Sankalp Semiconductor Chief Executive Officer Vivek Pawar and college Principal Dr Ashok Shettar have said Sankalp would support the college in making its MTech and BE courses unique by focussing on VLSI and highly industry-oriented technology. The college, in turn, would provide Sankalp with all infrastructure needs in Hubli to set up an offshore development centre and provide part-time learning opportunities to its engineers.

Mr Pawar said five companies, including Sankalp, would form a consortium and ask for 25 acres of land to set up centres here.

Sankalp, which had 25 engineers in Bangalore out of which 20 would be located in Hubli, planned to grow to 120 plus engineers by 2007.
