Health facilities a far cry in Manipur
Imphal, July 8 (UNI) Infant mortality and deaths related to delivery complicacies are on the rise in Manipur due to absence of adequate doctors and paramedics in hospitals.
The state has been facing acute shortage of doctors, mostly in the rural areas, and the worst sufferers are the villagers who can not afford to travel long distance for treatment.
Officials have admitted of improper infrastructure in the rural areas. However, they have assured that the government would soon take initiatives to appoint required doctors and medical staffs to fill up the vacancies said.
Students and civil bodies in Manipur have demanded to strengthen the health services in the peripheral areas of the state., Civil organisations of Moreh at the Manipur-Myanmar border said that innocent villagers are often cheated by quacks in absence of doctors here.
The government hospital here is in dilapidated condition.
However, officials said a new hospital has been constructed under the border area development programme.
The Anal Naga students, Anal Lenruwl Taangpi (ALT) had submitted a memorandum to Health and Family Welfare Minister D KKorungthang demanding improvement in health amenities.
The Health minister had assured to fulfil the demands of the people in the far flung areas.
