FIA directs FMSCI and MAI to merge or face derecognition

London, July 8 (UNI) The World Motor Sports Council of the FIA has directed the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) and Motor Sports Association of India (MAI) to merge under the chairmanship of Vijay Mallya by September or face the prospect of being derecognised.

FMSCI and MAI have been at loggerheads over being the official motorsports representatives of India with the governemnt recoginising FMSCI's status but FIA backing for MAI.

Following the latest FIA decision. Dr Vijay Mallya, who is the chairman of both the organisations, met MAI President Nazir Hussain to discuss the merger plans.

'' The unfortnate disagreements between the FMSCI and the MAI have affected the standing and reputation of our country in the eyes of the international motor sports fraternity,'' Mr Mallya said referring to the dispute.
