Educated not cashing in on abundant venture capital: TVS chief

Bangalore, July 8 (UNI) Notwithstanding a number of venture capitalists ready to offer funds for new enterprises, the Indian youth, despite having best professional qualifications, did not dare to become entrepreneurs, TVS Motor Chairman and Managing Director Venu Srinivasan regretted today.

Delivering the convocation address at the M S Ramaiah Institute of Management here, he said not many like Infosys Chief Mentor N R Narayana Murthy, who hailed from a middle class family and excelled as an entrepreneur by building a software major, came forward to take risk and start business.

''The new generation of professionals are only looking at jobs which offered them fat pay cheques. We are not seeing many new entrepreneurs these days. This trend should change,'' he said.

Mr Srinivasan called upon the management graduates to respond to the social changes and keep track of new trends, events and keep learning from the society. One thing they should never forget was that a bigger half of the Indian society was excluded from the economic development. ''India is growing at the rate of ten per cent and cities like Bangalore at 20 per cent. This should not go on for long and only the youth can bring about a social change and uniform development of both the people and the nation,'' he said.

He said that in India, 45 years of regulation and socialism had given way to competition since the last one decade. ''Quality, cost and delivery were the three factors that defined a successful enterprise and the young management graduates should keep this in mind,'' he added.
