Criminals gunned down in encounter with police

Gopalganj, Bihar, Jul 08 (UNI) Notorious criminals Guddu Tiwari and Mantu Singh were killed in an encounter with police yesterday near Mathiahata village under Uchkagaon police station of Gopalganj district.

Police today said that half a dozen motorcycle-borne criminals descended on a shop at Shyampur for commiting extortion and tried to flee away after trigering bomb blasts to scare away the people.

Police, however, gave a hot chase and intercepted the gang near Mathiahata village where the criminals opened fire at the police team.

Police retaliated and in the ensuing encounter, two criminals were killed.

One nine mm pistol and another countrymade pistol were recovered from the criminals, police claimed.

Notorious criminal Guddu Tiwari was wanted by police in over a dozen cases of murder, kidnapping and loot.

Police raids were on to nab the other members of the gang.
