22 killed, seven injured in Uttaranchal road accident

Dehra Dun, July 8 (UNI) At least 22 people, including four women and two children, were killed and seven injured when a bus fell into a deep gorge at Dharasu in Uttarkashi district of Uttaranchal today.

The bus (UA-07 C-9232) enroute to Uttarkashi from Dehra Dun, fell into a 500-metre deep gorge at 1400 hrs, due to steering failure, at Dharasu, about 30 km from Uttarkashi killing 21 passengers on the spot, official sources said.

The dead bodies of 21 passengers were extracted from the accident site. Of the eight injured passengers who were rushed to the district Hospital and Primary Health Centre in Uttarkashi, one succumbed to his injuries in the hospital the sources added.

ITBP jawans and the police alongwith the district administration were conducting the rescue operation.
