Dehradun, July 7 (UNI) The Uttaranchal government has set up a committee to suggest measures to check the soaring price of foodgrains and also approached the Centre to enhance its supply.

At a high level meeting under the chairmanship of Chief Minister N D Tiwari yesterday it was stressed that there should be transparency in the Public Distribution System.

Chief Minister N D Tiwari said the Union Agriculture Ministry had been urged to enhance monthly sanction of wheat to 15,000 metric tonne from the existing 1,586.

To strengthen the public distribution system and rein in price rise the state government has set up a committee called Price Megistrate comprising sub-district magistrate and tehsildar. Their responsibility would be to keep an eye on the prices of food grains and the essential commodities in open market.
