Two die in firing at tax barrier in MP
Narsinghpur, MP, July 7 (UNI) Two persons have been killed by firing during a dispute in this district over alleged forcible collection of toll tax from vehicles, police said.
The dispute ensued last night at a tax barrier along the Kareli-Gadarwara road 20 km from this district headquarters. The victims were identified as Kareli-resident Mohan Raghuvanshi (42) and Waheed Khan (30).
Twelve persons were taken into custody. More than half-a-dozen revolvers and live cartridges were seized from the scene of the crime. Deputy Inspector-General (Chhindwara Range) Ashok Awasthi and Superintendent Radheshyam Saket reached the spot.
A police force has been stationed in the area and the situation was stated to be under control.
Meanwhile, District Congress President Sunil Jaiswal alleged that the incident was the outcome of police inaction against armed persons who were present at the barier controlled by a BJP leader.
